The first whisky of the evening was the Glendalough 13, Special Edition Mizunara Finish Single Malt Irish Whisky – 46%. Aged 13 years in American Oak Bourbon Barrels, and finished in Japanese Mizunara wood casks. This was sourced from the Celtic wine shop in Dublin. Read more on their website.

Tasting Notes:

Nose:
sea salt, pineapple, candy, honey, lemon. Also a hint of a desi candy, ‘Mango Bite’

Palate:
amazing mouthfeel, orange, coffee bitterness

Finish:
lovely and long, warm cinnamon spice

Overall Impressions:
It’s a lot like candy! Smooth, warm, and delicious.

Next, we moved on to the Teeling Irish Whiskey, Brabazon bottling, Series 02 Port Casks – 49.5% sourced from a distillery located in Dublin. Read more about it on the distiller’s website.

Tasting Notes:

Nose:
spice & fruit, cherry, orange, digestive biscuits. Some leather notes as well. There’s a sharpness to it.

Palate:
more cherry and orange, some oak, a hint of mint, and a metallic taste

Finish:
short and semi-sweet. Marmalade, oak, and spice.

Overall Impressions:
a bit bitter for some of us, but certainly an interesting dram!

Finally, we closed with the Teeling Irish Whiskey, Brabazon bottling, Series 01 Sherry Casks – 49.5% sourced from a distillery located in Dublin. Read more about it on the distiller’s website.

Tasting Notes:

Nose:
Plum, sharp and acidic, brine, apple, ginger, cloves, and a warm sweetness

Palate:
more apple and ginger, moving quickly into the finish.

Finish:
clove and liquorice, very long

Overall Impressions:
Not too complex but a nice, warm and spicy dram. Smooth & comforting.
